Fresno County Champions for Change is led by the Fresno County Department of Public Health, with the mission of providing nutrition and physical activity education and supporting policy, system and environment (PSE) changes to improve nutritional status, prevent obesity and create healthier communities. Champions for Change targets its efforts in six Fresno County communities (Reedley, Parlier, Sanger, West Fresno, Lowell and Kerman). Cultiva La Salud is a critical partner and plays a leading effort in educating, engaging and training youth and adult residents on how to lead healthier lifestyles and create changes in their community that support this.
Over the past few years, many of the residents (over 150 residents) started off as participants in nutrition classes with Cultiva La Salud. The residents now represent themselves as Champion moms, dads, youth and grandparents who have strengthened their leadership skills and created a healthier Reedley, Parlier, Sanger, West Fresno, Lowell, and Kerman.
